Google sets January shutdown date for its Meet Media API preview

Google’s experimental Meet Media API endpoints are scheduled to shut down January 15, 2027; supported alternatives need workflow-specific validation.

Google announced on October 28 that it will permanently shut down the Meet Media API endpoints on January 15, 2027. Existing approved preview participants retain access to their credentials and staging environments until then. Google says the generally available Meet REST API and Meet Add-ons SDK remain supported. An API is an interface through which software accesses another service. Google recommends the Meet REST API for workflows such as post-call summaries and action-item extraction. Its documentation describes meeting records, attendance information and generated artifacts, including recordings and transcripts. These capabilities do not establish that every Media API workflow can migrate unchanged. Reference: https://developers.google.com/workspace/meet/api/guides/overview
