Shopify brings app-reported activity into merchant analytics—with limits on interpretation

Reportable app events require explicit declarations, and their metrics must be distinguished from commerce outcomes.

Shopify’s October 28 announcement lets developers declare standard or custom app events for Shopify Analytics. Merchants can explore supported metrics and dimensions in the report builder or query them through ShopifyQL. Events used for developer logs or billing do not automatically become analytics data: they must match a released analytics declaration. The guide requires an installed, authenticated app, matching definitions and successful analytics validation. Attributes remain available for filtering and grouping for 30 days; count and sum metrics remain in hourly summaries for up to 365 days, without attribute breakdowns. Shopify’s registry says app events do not replace commerce data. An accepted offer does not establish completed-order revenue, and marketing apps’ credited revenue can overlap. Reference: https://shopify.dev/docs/apps/build/app-events/analytics/standard-event-registry

AudioSlave analysis: Record the app, event definition and retention limits, then reconcile revenue against commerce records before combining totals. AudioSlave has not tested this release or established an improvement in attribution accuracy.
